Fitchburg, WI // Family Retreat

To accommodate this client's growing family, their space needed to evolve to meet their changing needs. For the boys' loft, with its angled ceilings, I softened the space to counter the challenging energy and create a welcoming, harmonious environment where they could feel at ease. I chose Mirage wallpaper to evoke the sensation of floating on clouds and recommended adding windows to bring in more natural light, brightening the space and lifting the energy.

For the girls' room, I focused on the ceiling, wallpapering it to create a dreamy, magical space she could gaze at from her bed. I also suggested a cozy bench seat by the window, so she could enjoy the peaceful view of the neighbor's horses, seamlessly blending calming, natural elements into the room.

In the kitchen, we designed a cozy nook and bench area where the whole family could gather and connect. Positioned near the window, the bench offers a space to enjoy the surrounding view while providing a comfortable spot for meals and conversations. I also designed a two-sided bench pillow—one side in faux leather for easy cleaning, the other in a beautiful textured fabric, perfect for entertaining guests.

Madison, WI // Tudor Charm

When an empty-nester couple relocated to Madison, they purchased a Tudor-style home with the goal of refreshing and modernizing the space.

Coming from a much larger home, they faced the challenge of downsizing while still wanting a cozy, functional environment that reflected their personal style.

I guided them through the renovation process, helping make thoughtful design decisions that honored the home’s original character while introducing updated elements. I also assisted in curating their furnishings—helping decide what to keep, donate, or replace.

With intentional space planning, we ensured that each piece supported both the home’s architecture and their day-to-day lifestyle. By layering in meaningful color, texture, and materials, we created a beautifully balanced and welcoming home that feels fresh yet familiar. It's a space that supports them in this new chapter of life.

Shorewood // Shorewood Escape

The client reached out to update their family room, powder room, and main bedroom, as well as add thoughtful details to the main living space. In the family room, the heart of their home, I chose a green sofa that beautifully brings the outdoors in. This piece adds a grounding quality to the space, creating a relaxed, welcoming environment that promotes balance, calm, and connection for the whole family to enjoy.

I transformed a corner of the room into a peaceful reading nook by adding a cozy lounge chair, perfect for unwinding. This addition creates a serene space to escape, whether it’s for enjoying a good book or simply taking a moment to relax and recharge.

I love designing fun powder rooms with a burst of color. For this space, I found a gorgeous wallpaper that completely enhanced the room's energy and added a playful touch.

In the main bedroom, I added textured wallpaper to create visual interest, making the space feel cozy and inviting. To complete the look, I incorporated a throw and pillows, adding layers of texture that make the room feel both stylish and comfortable.

A Sanctuary of Nature & Well-Being

Kosa Spa was envisioned as a tranquil, organic retreat rooted in Ayurvedic principles—a space that feels natural, healthy, and deeply restorative. The owners had a clear vision, and my role was to bring it to life with thoughtful design choices that honored both the historic character of the space and the authenticity of their brand.

With a focus on detail, color, and texture, I curated every design element to evoke a sense of Hygge and warmth, ensuring that each moment within the spa was an experience in itself. By embracing rich, organic materials and a honed, intentional restraint, we created an environment that feels cohesive, inviting, and world-class—a true reflection of Kosa Spa’s ethos.

The result is a space that not only looks magazine-worthy but also offers guests an immersive, sensory experience that aligns with the spa’s values of well-being, nature, and authenticity.

WELLNESS AT WORK

The client purchased a new office space with the vision of creating a dynamic, open workspace. I introduced the concept of biophilic design, and together with the architect and team, we brought this vision to life. Flooded with natural light, the space features natural materials, organic shapes, and colors inspired by nature—creating an environment that encourages creativity, boosts productivity, and nurtures employee well-being.

We incorporated greenery, natural textures, and views of the outdoors to deepen the connection to nature, further enhancing the overall experience. This thoughtful design not only supports employee retention but also fosters a more engaging, collaborative atmosphere. Visitors feel welcomed and drawn to the space, potentially increasing their time here, which can ultimately enhance ROI.

This biophilic-inspired workspace is the perfect blend of beauty and functionality—where nature and design come together to elevate both work and well-being.

A Soothing Space for Neurodivergent Support

Understanding the unique needs of autistic and neurodivergent students was at the heart of this project. My approach focused on creating a soothing, structured environment that fosters comfort, focus, and emotional regulation.

Through intentional color selection, thoughtful spatial planning, and sensory-conscious design, the space now feels more calming and supportive for both students and staff. While moments of dysregulation still occur, the new design has made a noticeable difference in how students interact with and respond to their surroundings—helping to create a space that truly supports their needs.

  • The most important part of working with Joy, is Joy.

My husband and I had a vision for Kosa Spa that truly came alive with Joy’s vibrant energy and her creative spark. The most important part of working with Joy, is Joy. She is open, collaborative, and willing to work with your ideas while pushing the envelope to create something that will make your brand pop. With an eye for detail, color, texture, Joy created every “moment” in our space to give our guests a feeling that is Hygge and authentic.

As an organic, Ayurvedic spa, we needed everything to feel natural and healthy. Joy’s esthetic and values inherently supported this in a way that brought forth the nature of our historic space and materials with richness and depth, while using a honed restraint that only comes with many years of experience.

It is our good fortune that someone of Joy’s experience and caliber, working as creative director for international brands, is here in Madison, bringing that level of design to this city. Every corner of our space could be photographed for a magazine.More importantly, our hope was to create a world-class space and brand, and with Joy’s world-class experience, we were able to achieve that.
